Oklahoma City is the seat of Oklahoma County, on the North Canadian River. The city, with an estimated population of 524,000, is also the state capital and the largest city in population of the five "plains states" (Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota). One of the city's most popular destinations is the Bricktown Entertainment District in downtown Oklahoma. Winding in the area is the navigable Bricktown Canal which stretches one mile and runs to a park past the Oklahoma Land Run Monument. The latter features a series of 36 giant statues stretching over two football fields. More statues are added as it is projected to be among the largest sculptural monuments in the world.
Also downtown is the I. M. Pei designed Crystal Bridge at the Myriad Botanical Gardens, a large downtown urban park. It is a tropical conservatory that contains foliage similar to the Amazon River basin.
