The name of the city was coined upon the initiative of NBC television and radio producer Ralph Edwards in 1950. On the 10th anniversary of the Truth or Consequences radio program, he proposed name of the town to take after the show. Henceforth, from Hot Springs, the town was renamed as Truth or Consequences.
