Saint Paul is a city in Ramsey County, on the Mississippi River. It is the capital of the state of Minnesota. Saint Paul and the adjacent city of Minneapolis form the core of the area known as the Twin Cities.
Saint Paul was named for a chapel dedicated to St. Paul the Apostle. The original name of the settlement was "Pig's Eye" named for the French-Canadian whiskey trader, Pierre "Pig's Eye" Parrant, who had led squatters to the town.
