Louisiana Flower Facts

The culture of Louisiana is wonderfully unique due to its French colonial heritage. English is by far the most commonly used language at present but French is recognized by Louisiana law as a native language and is still spoken by nearly five percent of the total population. The French influence is evident in the local dialects and in some names of places like the state capital: Baton Rouge.

A huge chunk of the Louisiana land area is a by-product of the Mississippi River. Louisiana was originally covered by the river and eventually shaped by the silt carried down the valley by the great body of water. Numerous salt domes are scattered near the coast, where salt is mined and oil is frequently dug up.

Hamel's Amusement Park in Shreveport – the only amusement park in Louisiana – is now mostly closed to the public. There is now a Six Flags in New Orleans East to sub for it.

The residents of Louisiana are constantly being subjected to a series of hurricanes. However, damage control is being devised as quickly as possible – the Louisiana State Police is currently organizing a contraflow lane reversal program in order to evacuate the New Orleans metropolitan area in the soonest possible time.

The license plates of automobiles in Louisiana are known for sporting the motto "Sportsman's Paradise." The motto is intended to put great emphasis on the hunting, fishing, and other outdoor adventures being offered by the state to residents and tourists. The motto is often used in state tourism campaigns.
