Overland Park is in the metropolitan region surrounding Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas. The community is located on what was part of the old Santa Fe Trail, and was established in 1906 and incorporated in 1960. It grew rapidly in the 1960s. Overland Park is named for its location on a bluff that gives a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.
