This Iowan city is named after Cedar River, which wounds through the city. Cedar Rapids, with an estimated population of 122,542, is Iowa's second largest city.
Formerly known as Rapids City in 1841, the city was incorporated in 1849 under its present moniker. Cedar Rapids is also dubbed the City of Five Seasons, owing to the Tree of Five Seasons situated downtown. The fifth season is promptly deconstructed as "a time to enjoy."
Interesting sites in the city include the Amana Colonies, seven German villages 19 miles southwest of Cedar Rapids, and the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, among others. The said museum houses the largest collection of paintings of city native Grant Wood.
The city is historically known for being once the residence of the world famous airplane inventors, the Wright Brothers. Quaker Oats also has a huge cereal mill in Cedar Rapids.
