Warner Robins is located in Houston County, Georgia. It was annexed into neighboring Peach County last September 26, 1997. Its total area is 59 square kilometers with a population of 56,305 based on a July 2004 census. Population density is 828 per square kilometer.
Originally named Wellston, which serves as a train stop for local farmers, it was renamed after General Augustine Warner Robins in order to secure a military base during World War 11. Founded in 1940, the city is nicknamed "International City" because of people coming from all over the world who were brought there by Robins Air Force Base.
