The city of Chignik falls under the jurisdiction of Lake and Peninsula Borough in the State of Alaska. Situated at the head of Anchorage Bay, the city's 15.9-square mile area is occupied by only 79 people according to the 2000 census. The city name comes from a Sugpiaq word which means "big wind".
